Remove the Company through the Open Company List
When you open an organization file in QuickBooks, the program provides you with a summary of available company files to pick from. The greater amount of files in the list, the greater the chance you'll accidentally choose the wrong file and work with the incorrect company. If you'd like to remove a business file through the list you don't want to permanently delete the file, you can edit the businesses that QuickBooks displays on startup.
Through the File menu, choose Open or Restore Company.
Choose Open a Company file and click Next. A window with all available company files will open.
Click on Edit List, located under the Open button. An Edit Company list window will open.
Put a check mark beside the company file you wish to hide by clicking the name associated with file.
Click OK to disguise the organization.
Delete the Company File
If you wish to remove an organization file altogether, you should use QuickBooks to delete the file permanently.
Through the File menu, choose Open or Restore Company. Navigate into the file you wish to delete and choose Open.
Press the F2 key or Ctrl+1 to open file information. Copy along the precise location of the file. The location address starts with "C:\" and ends with ".qbw".
Close the QuickBooks program and navigate to the file location on your computer. The file must have the QuickBooks icon about it.
Right-click on the file and choose delete.
Reopen QuickBooks and navigate to open up or Restore Company. In the event that file still appears, click on Edit List and click the business file to hide it.
Select OK to cover the deleted file.
